Martin Miller’s Westbourne Strength – Langley’s Distillery :45.2%ABV

Flavour profile: juniper/citrus
Garnish: orange
Named after their original office in Westbourne Grove, London, Martin Miller’s Westbourne Strength Gin has the same botanicals as Martin Miller’s gin; a fact I found hard to believe at first tasting such is the difference between the two. The strength is higher and the percentages different but even so, the contrast is pronounced. This to me is the epitome of a classic London dry gin, which is ironic as the London Dry classification was withdrawn when it was found that the cucumber compound was added after distillation.
On the nose there is citrus and juniper, refreshing and smooth
Neat, the defining word for this gin becomes evident; balance. The citrus from the original is toned down, juniper cranked up and both are in perfect accord. Subtle hints of spice but nothing overpowers the harmony of the juniper and citrus. Very smooth with a really long finish.
There is little point saying what this gin will mix with; basically anything. It is a superb all-rounder that has had a prized place in my cabinet for ages, and is jealously guarded and tucked to the back when friends come round to call. Its quality evidenced by the sheer number of awards it has amassed in competitions worldwide.
