Much care and attention has been lavished on this product, not least the 400 iterations that were sampled before deciding on the finished article to the bottle design, which is, like it or not, memorable; it is by Robert McGinnis, the designer of film posters for James Bond, Matt Helm, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Barberella, among others.
We at TheGinMan Towers do have a penchant for a quality, traditional-style gin with a certain something that lifts it out of the pack. And that’s what we have here.
Daffy’s has been specifically bottled at 43.4% as the distillers believe this to be the ideal strength; not too strong but powerful enough to give expression to the flavour.
On the nose, citrus zest is to the fore with a touch of wood following.
Neat, smooth spice and citrus with warmth from the coriander and ever-present juniper and subtle but exotic Lebanese mint are in the background. The finish is long, creamy and warm. This is a gin that can be enjoyed neat.
The recommended pour for a G&T is two parts tonic to one gin, garnished with lime and mint. The flavours evident neat are brought out and a sumptuous G&T produced; a perfect summer pour.
The Lebanese mint provides an exotic note that lifts Daffy’s out of the crowd and into a rarified group of gins; a select group that are ever present on The GinMan’s shelf. An easy choice when the occasion demands something special. And at 28.79 as I write on Amazon, it is very good value for such a high quality gin.
