Caorunn
Caorunn Gin – 41.8%ABV
Botanicals: juniper, coriander, lemon peel, orange peel, angelica root, cassia bark, rowan berries, Coul Blush apple, heather, bog myrtle and dandelion
Garnish – apple
Flavour profile – floral, fragrant
The bottle is new but the contents, fortunately, are unaltered. Hailing from Speyside in Scotland, Caorunn (pronounced Ka-roon) gin is wrapped in a tasteful new bottle not dissimilar to the original. We love the elegant simplicity of the bottle; the pentagonal shape, representing the five hand-foraged local Celtic botanicals, is retained, as is the beautiful cork stopper; all very classy.
On the nose we have subtle floral and lavender hints overlaid with citrus and juniper.
Neat, it is evident that apples have a big influence over this gin. They are one of the botanicals, a slice is the recommended garnish and, like a good apple, the taste is crisp, dry, sweet, aromatic and floral.
This is one of the rare gins that is an all-rounder. It can be appreciated neat, with tonic and makes a great cocktail base. In fact, renowned mixologist Tristan Stephenson has concocted many a cocktail to showcase Caorunn gin (see cocktail section for recipes).
One of our favourites, Caorunn never disappoints. It is not as complex as some, but is a light, breezy gin that can be paired with almost anything and is great value for money.
