Broker’s
Broker’s Export Strength – Langley’s Distillery :47%ABV
Botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica, lemon peel, orange peel, orris root, cassia, nutmeg, liquorice, cinnamon bark
Flavour profile: juniper
Garnish: lime
Some think the bowler sitting atop the Broker’s bottle a touch gimmicky; I like it. It adds a quirky touch to a gin that is a serious player.
Broker’s was created in 1998 using a 200-year-old recipe and distilled in a 200-year-old distillery. The name was meant to portray the Englishness of the gin; so, a stockbroker wearing a bowler hat.
The nose has classic bright hits of citrus and juniper.
Neat, it is big on juniper but well balanced with citrus coming through and a slightly sweet touch, with a peppery finish.
Mixed with tonic, it shines, clean, dry, punchy and warm as you would expect from a whopping 47% strength. I think it’s worth seeking out the export strength as there’s more depth and complexity to the gin.
Broker’s has won a stack of awards and I can see why; smooth, spicy, fruity, it’s a classic London gin that is a great all rounder. Also makes excellent cocktails – see The Aviation recipe. If you like an Aviation, you will love this.

The higher proof of Broker s makes it ideal for mixtures that would bury many of the new gins on the market today.
